Flash Fiction: April 22, 2025
The writing prompt: A story that takes place solely in one location/room/space.
The bird found its sound,
somewhere deep within the night.
After shedding its old fright,
silence ended when it hit the ground.
From its cage, it had fallen free;
what was once held captive
was no longer passive.
The bird could now just be.
Toward the sky,
it looked up in awe;
stars twinkled where bars were before.
It would no longer die
under Rule of Law;
The bird would know silence no more.
I've always struggled with sonnets of any style. Yours, here, though? Fantastic.
